Women in Climate

2025 - 01 February

Project Coordinator: European Women’s Lobby (EWL) Project Partners: National CSOs from Bulgaria, Netherlands, Romania, Czechia, Portugal, Finland Timeline: November 2024 – June 2026

The European Women's Lobby (EWL) is leading an innovative project called "Women in Climate" to strengthen gender mainstreaming in EU climate policies. This initiative brings together diverse stakeholders from six EU countries to ensure that future climate policies are gender-responsive and advance equality between women and men.
Key Objectives
Promote the voices of EU citizens, especially women, in climate policy discussions;
Encourage civic participation in the EU's democratic processes;
Propose inclusive solutions to national and EU decision-makers;
Provide policymakers with data to create lasting, gender-sensitive climate policies;
Amplify the voices of marginalized women in climate discussions;
Raise public awareness through widely disseminated policy recommendations.
Project Activities
Initial survey and online workshop to assess knowledge gaps and build capacity;
National events in six countries (Romania, Bulgaria, Portugal, Netherlands, Finland, CzechRepublic) to gather local perspectives and best practices;
Development of country reports and recommendations;
Final conference to present outcomes to EU-level stakeholders;
Translation and dissemination of final policy recommendations.
Why It Matters
Climate change affects women and men differently, yet women's perspectives are often overlooked in climate policies. This project addresses the urgent need to include women and girls in shaping environmental policies, ensuring a just and inclusive green transition.
European Added Value
Transnational cooperation across diverse EU regions;
Bottom-up approach to EU policymaking;
Intersectional perspective on climate issues;
Potential for scaling and transferring outcomes to other EU member states;
Target Groups;
National women's rights organizations;
Environmental and climate-focused CSOs;
Marginalized women (e.g., BIPOC, youth, women with disabilities);
National and EU policymakers;
General public.
Expected Impact
WomenInClimate aims to create more inclusive, effective EU climate policies that consider the needs and experiences of all citizens, particularly women. By fostering collaboration between women's rights advocates and environmental experts, the project will contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future for Europe.
Join us in making EU climate policies work for everyone. Together, we can build a greener, more inclusive Europe.
